Your dog will stay at our lovely countryside retreat near Windsor. Our custom-built Dog Log Cabins are fitted with 12 “bedrooms” with in building CCTV for ultimate comfort and safety. During the day these buildings also act as our ‘Zen Zones’ pups who want to relax with our very own special dog Spotify playlist and aroma diffuser with Ria’s mother’s lavender business, LongBarn lavender oil.

After School Club

When the London dogs leave to go home, our lead activity trainer holds an ‘after school club’, hosting activities such as treasure hunts, hide and seek, brain enrichment games with puzzles galore, arts and crafts with things to take home, ‘acting class’ for tik tok videos to show all your friends and learning fun new tricks with our ‘pick your trick’ slot. You will also receive an adventure montage of your dog’s highlights with us on the last day of their stay.

Grooming

On your dog’s last day they will receive a free exit wash worth over £80. This includes a brush and fluff if needed, shampoo and deep condition with a scent of your choice.

For dogs that need it we will continue to be brushing everyday (up to three times if needed) rinsing and de-matting when needed to ensure their coat stays in the best possible condition. On the weekend will have a different set up than the week day, it will be focussed even more on training as there will be less dogs and more staff to spend even more one to one time with. We can work on refining lead walking, retrieve, recall, brushing, etc. We also focus on more enrichment activities like our after school club throughout the day.

Celso, our overnight guardian, lives on site with the dogs and prepares their food to your specified requirements. The day care service is included with boarding; your dog will be out with the rest of the pack during the day unless you request otherwise. We like to keep constant communication with you so that you’re always aware of how your dog is whilst they stay with us.

If your puppy has enrolled into Saffy’s Puppy Academy the training continues as well as receiving all of this – with extra naps in between all the fun. From £105 per 24 hours.

Choosing the Right Dog Care Service in Windsor

Selecting the right boarding service ensures your pet receives quality care and attention. Dog owners need to make informed decisions by considering various factors and facility types. A well-suited pet care environment will ensure a comforting experience for both the pet and owner.

Types of Boarding Facilities

In Windsor, there are several types of boarding facilities available for your dog. Home-from-home services offer a comfortable, homely environment where dogs live as part of the family. These spaces are ideal for dogs who thrive on socialising with other dogs, attention and familiar surroundings.

For those preferring more structured settings, boarding kennels provide professional care. These facilities often have experienced staff and offer services like dog walking, daily exercise and medication administration for dogs with special needs.

Doggie day care options are also plentiful. These facilities focus on providing dogs with lots of social interaction and exercise during the day and are perfect for social dogs. Some establishments may offer extra services such as dog walking,  grooming and training.

What to Consider When Selecting a Boarding Service

When choosing a boarding service in Windsor, pet owners should assess several factors to ensure their pet’s well-being. Location is vital, as choosing a place close by makes drop-off and pick-up easier.

Experience and qualifications of staff are critical, especially for dogs with medical or behavioural needs. It is important that staff can handle various situations and provide appropriate care.

Facilities themselves should be inspected. Cleanliness, safety measures, and available space for exercise are all crucial. Look for places with positive reviews from other pet owners, as recommendations often reflect reliable services.

Pet owners should also check if the boarding service includes extras like veterinary coverage or customer support. These can enhance peace of mind while away.

Dog Care Amenities and Services

Dog care facilities in Windsor offer a variety of amenities designed to cater to dogs’ physical and dietary needs. They provide engaging exercise spaces, tailored meal plans, dog walking, and attentive care for senior dogs or those with special requirements.

Exercise and Playtime Facilities

Exercise is crucial for a dog’s well-being, and most boarding places boast spacious play areas. This might include large indoor and outdoor spaces where dogs can run freely and engage in supervised activities.

Many facilities organise dog walking sessions, helping pets enjoy the natural beauty of nearby spots, like Windsor Great Park, to gain mental stimulation and exercise. These activities are aimed at keeping dogs fit, happy, and healthy, enhancing their overall boarding experience.

Meal Plans and Dietary Considerations

Proper nutrition is a key focus in dog care. Colin & Co tailor meal plans to accommodate individual dietary needs and preferences.

Pet owners can provide specific instructions regarding food types, portion sizes, and feeding schedules. Options for dogs with allergies or food sensitivities are usually available, ensuring that every dog’s unique nutritional needs are met.

Staff ensure consistency in feeding to maintain health and satisfaction during the stay.

Specialised Care for Senior Dogs and Dogs With Special Needs

Specialised care is essential for senior dogs and those with special needs. Boarding facilities in Windsor often offer additional services for a dog’s safety, such as administering medication or special attention to mobility issues.

Comfortable bedding, warmer environments, and extra one-on-one time ensure that these dogs are cared for with the utmost attention. Staff are trained to monitor health signs closely, making sure that older dogs and those needing special care are comfortable and content during their stay.

Dog Training and Behavioural Enrichment During Boarding

Dog care facilities in Windsor not only offer shelter for dogs but also focus on improving behaviour and training. A variety of training programs are available at Colin & Co.

Training Programs Offered

Many boarding facilities offer specific training programs designed to improve a dog’s behaviour and obedience. These programs may include basic obedience training, which teaches commands like sit, stay, and come. Training might also extend to advanced options such as agility and scent detection.

Reactivity training is sometimes provided to help dogs with specific behavioural issues. Using methods like positive reinforcement and desensitisation, trainers can guide dogs to respond calmly to triggers. Owners can expect their pets to receive consistent positive feedback, using treats or praise to reinforce good behaviour.

Benefits of Behavioural Enrichment

Providing dogs with behavioural enrichment during boarding has multiple benefits. Activities such as interactive play, puzzle toys, and social interactions with other dogs not only keep dogs entertained but also stimulate their minds. Engaging in these activities helps reduce stress and anxiety, often associated with being away from home.

Daily routines may include structured walks or off-lead play in secure areas. These activities promote physical exercise and mental stimulation, contributing to a well-balanced and content pet. Enrichment ensures that dogs maintain a healthy level of socialisation and mental engagement while staying at the boarding facility.

Preparing Your Dog for Boarding

Getting your dog ready for a stay at a boarding facility involves a few key steps. Pre-stay visits and careful packing can help. It’s essential to understand health requirements as well.

Pre-Stay Visits and Acclimatisation

Visiting the boarding facility before the stay can make a difference. These visits help pets get used to new settings. Dogs can meet the staff, which builds trust and reduces nervousness. A friendly environment is crucial for comfort.

It is often helpful to participate in a doggie day care session at the boarding centre. This allows pets to spend shorter times away from home first. It makes it less stressful when the overnight stay comes. Acclimatisation can be useful for dogs who are anxious when separated from their owners.

Packing for Your Dog’s Stay

Packing the right items can enhance your dog’s boarding experience. Essentials might include:

  • Food they are used to eating
  • A comforting blanket or bed
  • Favourite toys

These items can make the stay more home-like. It’s also important to label everything with the dog’s name and any feeding instructions.

Familiar items help pets feel at ease, reducing anxiety. While some boarding facilities may provide food and bedding, bringing your dog’s own things can be beneficial. It provides a sense of familiarity and comfort for the pet.

Health and Vaccination Requirements

Ensuring dogs are healthy and meet all vaccination requirements is vital. Boarding facilities usually need proof of vaccinations, such as rabies, distemper, and kennel cough. It’s essential to check these requirements and update any vaccinations in advance.

Health checks before boarding are recommended. This ensures that pets are free from illnesses they might spread or catch from others in the facility. It also reassures owners that dogs are in good health. Many places ask for a recent vet check-up or health certificate. This provides peace of mind, knowing the pet is healthy and safe.
