DOG GROOMING

An in-house purpose built spa just for your beloved pooches!

Dog Grooming

We offer every aspect of dog grooming from a shampoo and blow-dry to a trim and the full works. Our spa is fitted with two grooming standard baths, hot water with massage heads and all the extras to make sure your pup comes home looking and smelling fantastic.

Grooming is a service that comes alongside Day Care, your dog will be collected from home and will have the opportunity to experience our normal day care service with the rest of the pack before or after their scheduled grooming appointment.

We require at least two weeks’ notice for grooming or hand stripping bookings and can only be booked alongside our daycare service.

Our ‘Posh washes’ are from £20 and will vary depending on the type of coat and size of the dog. Our dog grooming stylists use a specialised shampoo or scent of your choice and a choice of conditioners, depending on your dog’s coat. If your dog has rolled in poo or animal scent we will always provide photographic evidence so you can decide if you would like a posh wash or rinse for free. Please bear in mind this may not be as effective as a posh wash with our specialised fox poo shampoo.

Grooming is key to a healthy and happy pet. Regular grooming sessions at Colin & Co means a dog’s coat stays clean and tangle free, and we can check for any health issues. A well groomed dog looks good and feels good, and is better for their wellbeing and comfort.

Alongside the basics of a wash and trim, our grooming services offer packages that include spa like treatments and massages. These can be tailored to any size dog and coat type, so grooming is a luxury for all pet owners.

We know how important cleanliness is so we also offer added convenience with dog daycare. This means dogs can socialise and play before or after their grooming session for a positive experience.

Bottom Line

  • Grooming keeps dogs healthy and happy.

  • Grooming can include spa treatments.

  • We offer daycare with grooming for extra convenience.

Grooming is part of dog care. It’s more than just looking good. Regular grooming can improve a dog’s health, comfort and overall wellbeing. Our professional grooming services offer treatments for all breeds and coat types.

Why Groom Regularly

Regular grooming prevents health issues like skin infections and parasites. It allows us to monitor a dog’s health and catch any abnormalities early, like lumps or skin issues. Brushing a dog’s coat removes loose hair and dirt, reduces shedding and matting.

Regular grooming prevents comfort issues with nails, ears and teeth. Trimming nails prevents pain and discomfort in paws. Cleaning ears reduces the risk of infection. Regular dental care prevents gum disease and bad breath. Grooming also strengthens the bond between pet and carer, builds trust.

Dog Grooming Services

Dog grooming services are breed specific. Basic grooming includes brushing, bath, nail trim and ear clean. This keeps the dog clean and comfortable.

Specialised grooming is for breeds with specific coat types that require special techniques and tools. Poodles need clipping, Huskies need deshedding, other breeds may need styling for shows or special cuts. We offer extra treatments like flea baths or skin conditioning treatments so dogs are healthy and looking good.

Getting ready for a dog grooming session means choosing the right professional and managing the appointment logistics. Make informed decisions and use convenient booking tools to make it a smooth experience.

Choosing the Right Groomer

Choosing the right dog groomer is key to a good grooming session. Professional dog groomers like those at Colin & Co have the skills and experience to deal with all breeds and temperaments. Before choosing a groomer check out reviews and recommendations from other pet owners. Visit the salon to see how clean it is and how friendly the staff are.

It’s good to make sure the groomer knows the specific breed’s grooming needs. Discuss your dog’s special requirements, like skin sensitivities or behavioural issues, before the groom to avoid any miscommunication.

Scheduling and Online Booking

Convenient scheduling is important for any service and we now have an online booking system. This allows pet owners to check availability and book without having to make phone calls. It helps with busy schedules by offering flexible time slots.

Our system also sends reminders via email or text to reduce the chance of missed appointments. Online booking is more streamlined and quicker than traditional methods. Always double check appointment details once booked to make sure everything matches your dog’s needs.

Dog grooming keeps pets healthy and looking good. By using the right tools and techniques pet owners can care for their dog’s coat without professional help.

Brushing and Combing

Brushing removes loose hair and dirt from a dog’s coat. A bristle brush is good for short hair breeds, a slicker brush for longer haired breeds. Brushing prevents matting and reduces shedding.

Many groomers recommend starting with a metal comb to find any tangles before brushing. This keeps the coat smooth. Wire coated breeds may need hand stripping where the long guard hairs are gently removed with a stripping knife and thumb, leaving the undercoat intact.

Washing and Deep Cleaning

Bath time is important for clean fur and healthy skin. Use a dog specific shampoo to avoid irritation. Conditioners can be applied to add moisture and make the coat easier to manage. Dog owners should check their dog’s skin and choose products that match their coat type.

Deep cleaning may be needed if the dog has been extra active or dirty. For a full wash gently massage the shampoo into the coat and rinse well. Make sure all product is removed to avoid skin irritation. When washing is done blow dry with low heat to dry the coat fully and help with styling.

The Extras

The extras are the final touches to a finished look. A finishing cloth will add shine to any coat and tidying around the eyes, ears and paws will make them look neat. Trimming the nails is part of the extras and prevents discomfort or injury.

Check the coat for any areas that need a top up. A quick brush will show a job well done. Keep trimming shears and clippers handy so you can do any adjustments. Final styling will keep your dog comfortable and looking good so they are clean, happy and ready for their next adventure.

Caring for your dog after grooming is important for their comfort and health. Two things to focus on are immediate aftercare and ongoing home maintenance.

Aftercare Advice

After grooming check the dog’s skin for any signs of irritation. Soothing lotions or oils can be used to calm any redness or itching. Make sure they are hydrated as this helps skin health from the inside out.

Focus on the ears as they can be sensitive after grooming. Use a gentle ear cleaner to remove any debris or wax. Watch for any signs of discomfort like head shaking or scratching which could be an infection. Keep an eye on them and check for any signs of stress or discomfort.

Home Maintenance Tips

Home maintenance between grooming sessions will help maintain the dog’s skin and coat health. Brush several times a week to prevent matting and shedding. It will keep their coat looking neat and free of tangled fur.

Regular ear checks are important as they will prevent infections. Clean the ears gently with a dog specific product and check for any unusual odours or discharge. Make sure they are comfortable with nail care by using safe trimmers or grinders.

These will keep their coat in good condition and head off any potential health issues. Do these simple steps and you will see a big difference in their overall health.

Dog grooming requires health and safety protocols to be taken seriously. A safe environment is for the dogs and the groomers.

A clean and hygienic workspace is essential. Groomers must disinfect grooming tools regularly. Proper sanitation will reduce the risk of disease transmission.

Handling equipment safely is important. Groomers should be trained to use scissors, clippers and dryers correctly.

Key safety tips:

  • Keep tools sharp and clean

  • Store equipment safely

  • Check electrical equipment regularly

Managing animals during grooming requires patience and understanding. Dogs can be unpredictable so safety measures are necessary.

Animal handling guidelines:

  • Use non-slip mats

  • Restrain animals gently

  • Watch for stress signs

Protective clothing is good for groomers. Hair splinters can be irritating so wearing the right gear will prevent injury.

Recommended protective gear:

  • Water resistant aprons

  • Hair repellent clothing

  • Non-slip shoes

Chemical safety is another consideration. Groomers use shampoos and other products so handle with care.

Chemical safety checklist:

  • Read labels carefully

  • Wear gloves as needed

  • Store chemicals securely

By following these health and safety measures Colin & Co will provide a safe environment for all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dog grooming involves many steps to ensure the health and appearance of a pet. We set prices based on various factors while essential tools help both beginners and professionals maintain a dog’s coat and hygiene.

What are the essential steps involved in grooming a dog?

Grooming a dog usually involves brushing, bathing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and dental care. Different breeds may require specific techniques, but these are common steps to keep fur, skin, and nails healthy. Regular checks for ticks, fleas, and skin conditions are also important during grooming sessions.

Prices are often based on the breed, size, and coat condition of the dog. Additional factors can include the specific services needed. Some dogs may require more attention, thus increasing the cost.

A quality grooming kit usually includes combs, brushes, nail clippers, and shampoos that suit different coat types. It should be durable and easy to use, especially for beginners. Reviews and recommendations can help identify the best options available for both home use and professional grooming.

Professional dog groomers often pursue certifications from recognised organisations. Practical experience is crucial, and many start with training under experienced groomers. Knowledge of animal behaviour, basic veterinary care, and different breed requirements is also important.

Beginners should start with a basic set of slicker brushes, claw trimmers, and dog-friendly shampoo. Clippers might be necessary for certain breeds with longer coats. Reliable equipment can make the grooming process smoother and more efficient, helping to achieve professional results at home.

Frequency depends on the breed and coat type. Long-haired breeds might need grooming every 4-6 weeks, while short-haired breeds can go longer between sessions. Regular grooming from experienced groomers prevents matting and skin problems and promotes overall health, so consulting with a professional can help set an ideal schedule.
